Dennis L. Haskell, born on July 30, 1944, in Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, in El Paso, Texas, with his wife, Judy, by his side. He was a well-respected figure in the world of Standardbred Horse Racing, dedicating many years of his life as a trainer and judge. His extensive career included notable positions such as Director of Racing and Racing Secretary at various tracks across Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois.
Dennis's educational journey began at Webberville High School, followed by his attendance at Lansing Jr. College, where he laid the foundation for a career that would bring him much fulfillment and recognition in the equestrian community. After retiring as State Steward for the Michigan Racing Commission, he and Judy relocated to Capitan, New Mexico. There, Dennis continued his service to the community, contributing to local governance as a member of the Board of Trustees and as Mayor of the village.
A man of deep faith, Dennis was an active member of the Angus Church of the Nazarene, and he was also involved with the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. His commitment to his faith and community life underscored his character, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Haskell; son, James D. Haskell, and his wife, Nadine; daughter, Amy L. Seeley, and her husband, Steve; grandchildren, Nathanael Haskell, Michael Haskell, Logan Seeley, and Ben Foreman and his wife, Monica; great-grandchildren, Wayland James and Arya Joy; as well as his brother-in-law, James and his wife, Dixie; sisters-in-law, Linda Sliwinski and her husband, Al, Kathryn Sovie, and Kate Rudnicki. He also leaves behind many friends in Michigan and New Mexico who will remember him fondly.
Dennis L. Haskell was preceded in death by his parents, Wayland and Juanita Haskell; mother-in-law, Lena Klein; and grandparents, Blanche and John Haskell, and Lewis Bement. His memory will be cherished and honored by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
