Charles 0. Rominger, PhD, 79 years old, called Chuck or Judge, passed away on July 26, 2016. He had resided in New Mexico for over half his life and the past 37 years in Carrizozo, NM.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas on June 1, 1937. Family owned the RX- Ranch where he was raised.
He attended and was a member of the last graduating class of R.L. Paschal High School (1955).
He was preceded in death by his father Charlie, mother Viola, brother Robert. Aunt and uncle Ollie and Luca Rominger, aunt and uncle John B. and Ruth Collier, and grandparents Charles and Augusta Rominger and Grimes family.
He is survived by wife Rachel A. Rominger, BSe, of Carrizozo, New Mexico, daughters Robin Ruth in Weatherford, Texas, Cathryn of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Michael Rominger, Albuquerque, NM. Step daughters Renae Vega, Alamogordo, NM and Jonette Medrano, Albuquerque, NM, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Member for over fifty years of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Moslah Shrine, and Elks.
Avid boater, fisherman, hunter and assisted law enforcement carrying commissions both in Texas
and New Mexico. One of the first to obtain a Concealed Carry License in NM.
Worked at Tarrant County Sheriff's Department at age of eighteen as a radio dispatcher until
turning twenty-one and becoming a patrolman, for five years. While working he attended TWC
and TCU at Fort Worth and obtaining a degree of, Master of Business Administration and
started his PhD which was obtained from TCU. Second Lieutenant Commission in the U.S. Army
(Command Pilot), TXNG, signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
He purchased part ownership of Aero Enterprises, Inc., and obtained a Commercial pilots license,
Multi-Engine, Instrument, Certified Flight Instructor and Airline Transport Rating, ratings. He
later worked for a subcontractor for the government, being assigned for periods of time to most
of the Strategic Air Command Bases, working in engineering departments on the Atlas, F-111,
A7D, and Gemini Spacecraft programs. Spent thirteen months in Cambodia, the far east as
supervisor. Assigned to Brasilia (capitol) , Brazil.
He attended TWC, TCU, UTEP, (along with numerous classes from other colleges) and
completed his PhD.
Lived at Lake Worth, Texas, and moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico and purchased the Sitzmark
Chalet, Montgomery Wards Store, and operated Ruidoso Furniture. Became one of the first
Commercial Appraisers in New Mexico with a License Number of 002-G. He operated and
supervised a real estate office in Ruidoso and Carrizozo. Worked as supervisor over six counties
for N.M. Taxation and Revenue in the early seventies. Was Right of Way Director for NMDOT overseeing forty-seven employees. He and his wife owned the Lincoln County News as an investment.
In 1989 he was appointed Magistrate Judge in Lincoln County where he held that office for over twenty years. He retired in 2006 from all of his various type of jobs, due to numerous health problems.
Prayer service will be Friday, July 29, at 9:00 AM with the funeral mass to follow at 9:30 AM at Santa Rita's Catholic Church in Carrizozo. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.
