Charles Onstead

C. R. "Ronnie" Onstead, 87, passed away Nov. 11, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas at the Covenant Hospital.

Ronnie was born to I. D. & Ollie (Bench) Onstead in Amherst, Texas on Nov. 30,1930. Also born in Amherst was a half brother, Irvin Donnaquin, Jr., brother Wayne Norris and sister Wanda Jean.
He had attended schools in Amherst & Littlefield, Texas, attended summer school in San Marcos Texas at the San Marcos Military Academy and finished High School at South Plains College night school in Levelland, Texas.
He married Louise "Lou" Joyce Wilson of Spade, Texas on Jan 12,1948. They had 3 daughters: Sandra Kay, Jayna Gail and Kathy Roxann. Then divorced after 26 years. Eventually in 1999 Ronnie met and married LaWanda Jean (Crumpton) Rhoten of Ruidoso, New Mexico and was happily married until his passing. Jean has 3 sons and Ronnie has 3 girls. They both have many grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren
As a kid, he was saving marbles, had a small postage stamp collection. He enjoyed playing football.

He had first married when he was 17, his 1st daughter, Sandra Kay, was born when he was 18. He was then 33 when his first grandchild was born, Sharon Dion.
Ronnie had worked at the Wayne Milk Co. in Littlefield, Texas, he had driven a delivery truck. He'd spend years working with his folks in the retail furniture business (Onstead Furniture) and active in real estate at the same time. He'd worked for Union Carbide in farm chemicals & fertilizers then with Tide Fertilizers. Then was District Mgr. for Nelson Auction International. He'd also worked for White pass and Yukon Railways in Skagway, Alaska.
He had also owned and managed Gwennie's Old Alaska Restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska.

From time to time he'd helped his brother-in-law, Donald Gilreath, and his sister on their farm in Dimmitt, Texas.

He had been North of the Arctic Circle and the bottom of North America.

His funeral service will be Monday, November 19, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. at the J Bar J Church with burial to at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
