Caroline Woody Kennedy was born on May 13,1923 in Brooklyn, New York to Marion Riecks Woody & Robert Houston Woody. She was an only child and spent her childhood growing up in Great Neck, N.Y. She attended Ogontz School for Girls, and went to college in Austin, Texas at the University of Texas.
While home on school break, she was introduced to William Gordon Kennedy, Jr. who was a cadet at the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Long Island. After his graduation as a second officer they were married in Austin, Texas on December 1,1944. Following the war, they moved to Bryan, Texas to finish school at Texas A&M University. This is also where their daughter, Shaula, was born. Five and a half years later in Hereford, Texas their son, William G. Kennedy, III was born.
They spent time in Alexandria, Virginia and, while living in Morgantown, West Virginia, Caroline worked as an avid volunteer at The Kennedy Youth Center, Federal Correctional Facility.
While living in Littleton, Colorado, she was very active in the Colorado Cursillo Movement She remained a homemaker for more than fifty years losing the love of her life in February 1994. Caroline suffered from Alzheimer's disease for many years before passing away on November 12th at the Mescalero Care Center.
She leaves behind her daughter, Shaula & husband, Richard Cull. Her son, William G. Kennedy, III and his wife, Christine. Her four granddaughters: "Virginia (Ginny) CuU Lopez & husband, Dion; Anne Cull & her husband, Ron Gordon; Elizabeth (Betsy) Cull; and Catherine (Cathy) Cull Potter; and her two great-granddaughters, Savannah Faith Potter & Sydney Annette Lopez.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 25th at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Mount -121 Mescalero Trail in Ruidoso at 11:00 A.M.
