Carol Ann Priesnitz Mound, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Cedar Park, Texas. She was 88 years old.
Carol was born on September 27, 1936, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Fritz and Marian Priesnitz. She grew up in Carlsbad and later attended New Mexico State University, where she met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Mound. The two were married on September 21, 1957, in Carlsbad, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with family, friendship, and adventure.
Together, Carol and Dick made their home in several communities, including El Paso, Deming, and Ruidoso. Carol lived last year in Cedar Park, Texas. Wherever she lived, Carol brought warmth, kindness, and a sense of community.
For more than 25 years, Carol worked for Community Public Service in Ruidoso, NM, which later became Texas-New Mexico Power. Beyond her professional life, she was an active member of St. Eleanor Catholic Church, participated in Altrusa, and contributed generously to the Backpacks for Kids program.
Carol will be remembered for her many talents and passions. She was an excellent cook and skilled seamstress, always ready to share her creations with loved ones. She enjoyed playing card games and board games, bringing joy and laughter to gatherings. She and Dick shared a love of travel, often journeying together to explore new places, including many trips to Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Mound; her brother, Joe Priesnitz; and her son-in-law, Terry Yenson.
Carol is survived by her children Cindy Yenson (d. Terry), Rick Mound (Tina), and Sean Mound (Patti); her sisters Elaine Sabre (Randy) and Kathy Ray (Karl); her grandchildren Chelsie Craddock (Lawson), Nicole Mound, Patrick Mound (Jen), Trey Mound (Sara), and Jonathan Mound; and her great-grandchildren Grayson Mound, Caroline Craddock, Noah Craddock, Landyn DeRonde, Hudson Mound, Luke Mound, and Ava Mound. She is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Carol's legacy lives on in the love she gave, the friendships she nurtured, and the family she cherished above all.
Service Information
A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Eleanor Catholic Church, 140 Junction Road, Ruidoso, New Mexico. A reception will follow at Burkham Barn, 107 Sagebrush Drive, Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico, where lunch will be served.
