Brandon Scott Devine was a loving father, husband, son and friend to so many and has left us too soon. He was a devout Christian, avid outdoorsman, all American patriot and charismatic leader who treated each person equally with love. He has held many different names to countless people he interacted with, but his favorite name was at home, Dad.
Brandon was born in Roswell on April 19, 1972, and he grew up in Artesia, New Mexico where he found a passion for horses, servant leadership and agriculture education. Brandon was proud to earn his State FFA Degree and was elected Artesia Class of 1990 President. After 11 years of attending New Mexico State University, having to take semesters off to work and save enough for tuition, he had achieved his goal of graduating with an “AXED” degree and becoming a first-generation college graduate. In his time at NMSU he met and fell in love with his soul mate, Suzanne, who he remained with until the end. Some of his favorite activities and memories are surrounded with his friends, or as he called them brothers, playing guitars and singing Chris LeDoux covers, hunting elk in the rut with a muzzleloader, and working with his hands.
Brandon was the Ag Teacher at Hondo Valley Public Schools for 23 years where he impacted numerous lives for the better. He was proud to be recognized by his peers, whom he loved like a family, in 2021 as Ag Teacher of the year. He was also the football coach for 18 of those years; Brandon was the first coach at Hondo to win a state championship in 2008. In total he won 3 state championships and had 4 runners-up. His favorite accomplishment at the school however didn’t come with accolades, but rather his “kids”. He was so proud of the success his students found outside and after the classroom that it fueled him to take a job with the New Mexico FFA State Department as the State Agriculture Education Director. With his new job he was blessed to travel the state encouraging Ag teachers efforts and again bettering others. Brandon truly loved his job, and the people involved with it.
Brandon was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Garilyn Devine along with countless family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife Suzanne and son Jake along with even more family and loved ones.
