Barbara Mcfarland

Barbara Tolar McFarland was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on November 1st, 1949 and passed away peacefully at home in Nogal, New Mexico on December 27, 2018.

She worked for 30 years as a special education teacher and loved her students. She had an enormous impact on many children. Of her many contributions, one of the most significant was the establishment of a life skills learning facility in Cleveland, Mississippi. Throughout her life, where ever she lived, the community benefitted from her generous spirit, especially children in need.

Anyone who spent any time with Barbara knew what an artistically gifted person she was. She had a passion for arts and crafts. So many of her family and friends were fortunate enough to receive many unique and beautiful creations made by her.

In 1983, she met Boyce "Mac" McFarland while they were living in Virginia. On June 29th, 1985, she began her adventure as an Air Force wife. Together, they were stationed in various locations to include Izmir, Turkey and several places in the United States. Even with all of the moves, she never lost her southern roots. When Mac retired in 1994, they both taught school in Porterville, CA and eventually settled in Nogal, New Mexico.

She had a fabulous sense of humor. She loved a bargain. We know that anything that is not tied down in heaven is monogrammed.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, bonus son Dominque Figiel (Gulay Figiel), bonus grandson Cyrus, bonus daughter, Lisa Forster (Richard Forster), and bonus granddaughter, Rayanna, all of whom she loved as her own. She is also survived by an extensive, loving family.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 11 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1000 D Avenue, Carrizozo, NM 88301. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St Jude Children's Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
