Avyce Reeder

May 7, 2007 — March 25, 2007

Mrs. Reeder slipped away in the early morning on Sunday, March 25, to be with the Lord and have a reunion with her family and close friends who preceded her to Heaven. She fought a gallant fight with Lymphoma Cancer for over ten years. She was born in Loraine, Mitchell County, Texas on May 7, 1927 to Robert H. and Stella E. Bennett. She attended Highland High School, Hardin Simmons University and Texas University in Austin prior to working for Shell Pipe Line Co. in Colorado City, Texas. She married Joe F. Reeder on May 1, 1948 and they honeymooned in Ruidoso at the Whispering Pines and decided this was the place of their dreams. They bought their first Cabin in Ruidoso in 1959. After living in Colorado City and Eastland, Texas, Uncle Sam requested their presence for a tour of duty in the Army. Avyce went with Joe to all of the assignments including, Camp Chaffee, AR; Ft. Bliss, TX; Ft. Sill, OK; and Ft. Kobbe, Panama Canal Zone. After their military service they lived in Abernathy, TX, eventually moving to Midland, TX; Odessa, TX; Irving, TX and short time in Gastonia, NC. In 1986 they moved to Ruidoso as their permanent residence where they built their present home on McBride Drive. She is survived by her husband, Joe F. Reeder; daughters, Karen E. Reeder and Sue Ann Reeder both of Ruidoso; a brother, R.C. Bennett of Midland, TX; nieces, Jane Bennett and Jean Bennett of the Vail, CO area; several nieces and nephews; several cousins and her beloved dog, Misti. Honorary pallbearers consist of Lane Bachman, Bill Carlton, Marian Culver, Bill Estep, Bill Everett, Bob Ford, Bob Golightly, Charlie Harrison, Wayne Hildreth, Windor Lacewell, R.J. Murray, Myron Townley, and George Westall. Her quick wit, tender love, passion for life, compassion for family and friends and the grace with which she lived her life will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, consider contributions to Ruidoso Hospice, J Bar J Country Church Building Fund, and First Baptist Church Library Fund.
