OBITUARIES

Zane Harkey Petty
March 5, 1923 - September 21, 2008

Zane Harkey Petty went to be with her Lord on September 21, 2008.  Zane was born on March 5, 1923 in Carrizozo, NM to John Wesley Harkey and Minnie Dalton Harkey.  She married Ralph F. Petty in Carrizozo, NM in 1941 and together they raised four children.

Zane's love for music won her a scholarship to Colorado Women's College at 16 years old. She was a tremendous pianist. One of Zane's prized treasures was the family cookbook that she authored for her children.  She had a simple philosophy about her passion for cooking, "Anyone can cook a delicious dish if they start with a good recipe."  Throughout Zane's life she acquired numerous professional designations including real estate broker, interior decorator, licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor, and certified nutritional consultant. Zane's travels took her from Carrizozo, through Nogal, to the family home in Ruidoso, and ultimately to Roswell, where she was the proud owner of Down To Earth Nutrition Center.

Zane is survived by her loving pet, Poco; Ralph F. Petty, Sr. and his wife Jean of Pampa,
Texas; son John Dalton Petty and wife Jill Bonnell Petty and their children Chad D. Petty, Robyn Petty, and Lia Armstrong and husband Shane, all of Albuquerque; daughter Karon Z. Petty; daughter Sandra P. Stewart and husband John R. Stewart, and Sandra's children, Sashua C. Patton and husband Joshua, Caryn C. Schultz and Joe Lucero and their children Joseph, Danica, and Stephen, and J. Michael Schultz and fiancÚ Tiffany Hazelbaker; widowed daughter-in-law Mary Margaret Petty and her children Jennifer H. Petty and John Benjamin Petty.

Zane is predeceased by brothers J. Fay Harkey and Jack P. Harkey and also by her son, Ralph F. Petty, Jr.

A graveside service will be held at the Angus Cemetery on Wednesday September 24 at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lagronesruidoso.com

Though Zane loved growing beautiful flowers, in lieu of flowers she would have preferred that we all "Live Healthy and Be Happy".
