I served in the Army.

Floyd “Fat” Kelly Hobbs was born to George Marion Hobbs and Dona Aber Hobbs in Coyote, New Mexico on June 23, 1930. He passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2017 at the age of 86.

His life was filled with love for others, especially children, cowboying and helping local ranchers with predator control. Floyd served in the army from 1951 until 1953 and the army listed Floyd’s civilian occupation as a “cowpuncher”. He then married the love of his life Dorothy Jewell and spent 60 years together raising many children, including Donna, Clay, Denise, Rex, Delois and Arlin to name a few. Floyd supported his family by working for the state and federal government doing predator control and cowboying. Floyd was well known for his gentle, soft-spoken manners, and his love for people.

A celebration of Floyd’s life will be Friday May 05, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lincoln County Fair Grounds with a pot-luck lunch following afterwards. Then anyone that would like can follow the family to the Ancho Cemetery for burial of his cremated remains.

Floyd is survived by brothers Lloyd “Timer” Hobbs of Oscuro NM, Curtis “Tick” Hobbs of T or C NM; sister Margret “Bug” Phingsten of Comanche TX; sister-in-law Willie Mae Hobbs of Capitan NM; daughter Donna Stewart and Dan of Cliff NM; son Clay Hobbs and Chris of Omak WA, Arlin Talbot and Teri of Roswell NM; grandchildren Michelle Smith and Joe of Bay Town TX, Floyd “Salty” Hobbs and Amy of Capitan NM, Cody Hobbs of Omak WA, Travis Hobbs and Jeannie of Hartline WA, Kimberly Mitchell of Hondo NM, Justin Riley of Lincoln NM, Shawn Talbot of Roswell NM, Brandon Talbot of Albuquerque NM, Ethan Talbot and Sarah of Okinawa Japan; great grandchildren Alexis, AJ, Mikey, Arlin, Jamie, Jonathan, Phillip, Zakk, Rex, Lucy, Talon, Brayton, Paisley, Mason and Isaac; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family; the entire McDaniel family; many dear friends; fellow cowboys and trappers.

Dear Hobbs family, so very sorry for your loss. He has joined the love of his life (Dorothy) on "the other side". I'm sure he was very lonely without her. My sincerest condolences. Donna, give me a call sometime when things slow down a bit for you. Sorry I cannot attend the service, I''ve been sick and have had to miss some work so I dare not take any more time off. I will be thinking and praying for you and all the family though. Russell will be there playing fiddle with Rick so he can represent me and my family. God bless you and comfort you during this sorrowful time.
